Department of Psychology – Lund University, Sweden
In July 2011, Prof. Mário Simões visited the Department of Psychology, University of Lund, headed by Prof. Etzel Cardeña, in order to know how research was done in hypnosis, as it would be one of the main means of intervention to be used in LIMMIT Lab. This visit resulted in some ideas for future work, more than indications for purchasing material.
Department of Psychosomatic Medicine – Uni Regensburg, Germany
In May 2014, Prof. Mário Simões Dr Jorge Martins visited the Angewandte Bewusstseinswissenschaften Laboratory (Applied Consciousness Research), directed by Prof. Doctor Thilo Hinterberger, a scholarship holder from the Bial Foundation.
We learned how to better build an immersive multisensory environment, with neurofeedback, which was applied at the Center for Studies with Conscience (Univ Valores de Mafra) in collaboration with the IBEB of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
Salivatec, FMDentária – Catholic University of Portugal – Viseu
In May 2014, Prof. Mário Simões Dr Jorge Martins visited Salivatec Lab, directed by Prof. Marlene Barros. We learned about modern research techniques in saliva proteomics and also about the potential for new research methods, especially about the characterization of states of states and traits of consciousness, with salivary biomarkers. This potential was used in the research project leading to the PhD of the Head of the LIMMIT Laboratory, Dr Jorge Martins.
Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, BIOCANT – Uni Coimbra
In June 2014, continuing the contacts to implement an interdisciplinary collaboration network, Pr. Mário Simões Dr Jorge Martins visited the Proteomics Unit, headed by Prof. Bruno Herds. During that visit and in another one we carried out in September, we expanded our knowledge about the potential of studies in saliva, especially the use of mass spectrometry.
IBILI – University of Coimbra
In 2015, Pr. Mário Simões Dr Jorge Martins visited IBILI - Institute of Biomedical Image and Life Sciences, headed by Prof. Miguel Castelo-Branco. We expanded our knowledge with Kinect interaction – motion and image sensors, as well as the possibility of protocol research, using states of consciousness and their imaging in fMRI. This possibility is dependent on a second visit scheduled in a partnership with LIMMIT, for an IBILI project, which received a research grant from the Bial Foundation (Effects on spirituality of the administration of Ayahuasca).
University of Values - Mafra
In 2015, Pr. Mário Simões Dr Jorge Martins visited University of Values. As a result of multiple visits and collaboration with that university, which promotes values of citizenship and spirituality, a Consciousness Knowledge Center was created. This Center simultaneously disseminates knowledge about Consciousness, but will also research the implementation of values in an environment of neurofeedback and sensory immersion. It has been in partial operation since the inauguration of that University, on 01.08.2016.
IBEB – University of Lisbon
In 2016, Pr. Mário Simões Dr Jorge Martins visited IBEB - Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering. We were received by Prof. Hugo Ferreira, researcher at that institute. There we were introduced to Neuro imaging, Physiological Computing and Person-Machine Interfaces. This visit in June 2016 resulted in close collaboration not only in teaching but also in the implementation of the Center for Consciousness Knowledge, in Mafra.
Hospital de Castelo Branco Local Health Unit
In October 2017, Pr. Mário Simões Dr Jorge Martins visited Hospital de Castelo Branco. The possibility arose of installing an extension of LIMMIT, FMUL. Given some logistical difficulties, this unit operated for about a year and a half, and is now inactive.
Human Neuropsychopharmacology Reserach Group
By invitation of Prof. Jordi Riba, Dr Tania Re and Prof. Doctor Olga Silva visited the Neuropsychopharmacology Department at the Hospital Snt Pau, of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (19-23.07.2017). There we contacted the best that was done in Europe about neuropharmacological research using Ayahuasca.
